Inside the Art Collection: What Makes HALL Arts Residences One of the Most Distinctive Addresses in Dallas
A Collection Curated, Not Decorated
Most residential towers hang art. HALL Arts Residences built a collection. The distinction matters. The works throughout the building were selected by Virginia Shore, the Washington, D.C.-based curator who served as Chief Curator and Acting Director of the U.S. State Department’s Art in Embassies program, overseeing collections and commissions around the world before bringing that same curatorial perspective to HALL Arts.
Shore has said of her work with Art in Embassies, “Initially we called ourselves a global museum. And we soon realized that’s exactly what we’re not.” That distinction speaks to the thinking behind HALL Arts. Her work extends to the HALL Arts Hotel next door, where she curated the hotel’s contemporary art collection. The result feels less like amenity-level styling and more like a collection someone spent real time building.
A COLLECTION OF MANY MEDIUMS
The collection spans a range of media, bringing together works that create a distinctive visual experience throughout the Residences. There’s a sculptural presence from Richard Long, fiber work from Sheila Hicks, and Rob Wynne’s mirrored glass piece Blue Green Splash. Tom Orr’s Waterfall series brings a quieter, more architectural sensibility, while Simon Waranch’s blown-glass bottles and studies invite a closer look.
Photography is also represented, including Parish Kohanim’s Stripes Study series and David Benjamin Sherry’s Big Bend, alongside works by Linling Lu, Rebecca Clark, Hugo McCloud and Pard Morrison. Morrison’s Warp and Weft also appears in the HALL Arts Hotel collection next door, creating a subtle connection between the two buildings and their shared appreciation for contemporary art.

The HALL Texas Sculpture Walk adds another layer to the experience, bringing art into the landscape just outside the Residences.
